$8,591.00

Overview:

Captivating antique Art Nouveau plique-a-jour dragonfly brooch/pendant crafted in 18 karat yellow gold (circa 1900 to 1910s).

Old mine and rose cut diamonds range in size from 0.01 to 0.05 carats. The total diamond weight is estimated at 0.19 carats). Two estimated 0.01 carat rubies around the eyes and one estimated 0.05 carat emerald is set into the upper win. The body of the dragonfly is set with a large pearl (encased at the back. The lower drop is set with a 7mm cultured pearl (a later addition to the piece).

The beautifully articulated dragonfly features plique-a-jour enameling to the wings in soft pastel shades of pink and green with accents of clear white enameling. Plique-a-jour is a French term for "letting light in". We believe the brooch is of European origin yet we do not see any hallmarks to indicate a Country of Origin or Maker. The back of the piece features a detachable brooch mechanism that allows the piece to be worn as a pendant also. A rare find and great collector piece. We have not cleaned the brooch in order to preserve the patina and collector value.

The dragonfly symbolizes change, transformation and adaptability and was a very popular motif during the Art Nouveau era.

The brooch is in very good condition.
